Going to Paris - Photowalk anyone?

I'm heading to Paris for Le Web 3, and I'm going to be arriving on Saturday, December 9th, which gives me 2 days before the conference starts to get in some sightseeing. Anyone up for a meeting/get-together and photowalk on Saturday afternoon the 9th or on Sunday the 10th? I've only been to Paris once before, and I fell in love with the beautiful city. I must admit however that I haven't seen much of it.

I am an avid photographer, so I'm really looking for beautiful places, especially hidden gems that only the locals know about...

Leave a comment here or drop me an email at dsifry AT technorati DOT com. I'll be staying at the Sofitel Paris Porte de Sevres near the conference...

Here's a shot from my last trip to Paris:

Hello David,
I am happy to read this note since I recently posted a note in which I said I would be glad to meet you at the conf Leweb3..Your idea actually is even more appealing.
So here is what I suggest: I will have some (about 6) "laissez passer" (we'll avoid lines...as you know the french don't like lines!) for Musée Picasso (it is a very fine little museum located in Le Marais), Musée d'Orsay, and this fine exhibit about Walt Disney at the Grand Palais...we won't be able to do it all so you'd have to choose... and other people can join!(...and besides the exhibits the museum are treasures by itself and have inside some unknown gems as well..)
I also suggest that you visit the 20th arrondissement which is the old popular Paris that tourists usually don't know, I'd be specially happy to show you this neighborhood (the view from parc de Belleville is exceptional!)
Then you have to go to this new place under the Pont Alexandre III...the bridge is already something but this place is amazing!
Let me know what you think about that, and I'll also think of other things to see..
Have a good day!

I'll be there then too, Dave, but my photowalk will be with my wife, who's coming along also :)

That said, it would be great to meet you at the conference.

Hey - do you have a Flickr page? That's a great shot ...

I'll arrive in Paris on Sunday afternoon and my hotel is near the Tour Eiffel. It would be nice for me to meet you: let me know!

Estelle,

This sounds like a great idea! Why don't we do this on Saturday. The Musée Picasso and Musée d'Orsay sound great, and I love to walk around a beautiful city like Paris with a local - I trust you know all the most interesting places. 20th arrondissement sounds great as well.

I've just bought a guidebook of city walks in Paris as well - since I've never been to most of the really touristy sights (like Notre Dame, The Louvre, Eiffel Tower, etc) those are great too, whatever we can fit in given the time. I spent some time in the neighborhood around the Arc de Triomphe last time I was in Paris and the lovely shopping street (with lights everwhere) last time I was there, so that leaves lots and lots of interesting places to see...

The more the merrier, and I'm up for walks on Saturday and Sundey - all I have plans for right now is a pre-conference dinner Sunday evening, and I arrive in Paris on Saturday morning...

Nicola,

Hm, I'm thinking that a walk on Saturday and on Sunday would be great - lots of exercise, great sights and I'm always interested in meeting people!

That's a plan then, let me know if we need more than 6 "laissez passer" depending on the people you will bring along.
We'll meet on saturday afternoon at Musee Picasso, the walk from there to the Musee d'orsay is beautiful, and then we'll see if you and your folks want to go to this unknown part of Paris (very very old parisian kind, I'll post a video soon, you'll see...) that we used to call "le quartier de la bande à Bonnot" (Belleville, Jourdain, Menilmontant) en souvenir of the thiefs who would hide there, it is now a place where people take pleasure gathering and singing old french songs together ("cliché" but this is Paris too nowadays!)
Oh and before that, we have to go to this place under the Pont Alexandre III ! Well, lot's of things to see, I'll try to make it as interesting as I can..if everything doesn't fit in saturday we'll extend to sunday, we'll see..

Sadly I am not arriving until Sunday afternoon but staying at the same hotel, I think. I lived in Paris for 3 months last year and there plenty of photos on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/drbrett/

Whilst you are in the Marais, stroll past the Musée Carnavalet for a spectacular small garden, and take a walk down Rue des Rosiers, a centre of Jewish life in Paris with important slices of history and, on the weekend, lots of life and great photo opportunities with your long lenses to find interesting faces.

Thebook Paris Unexplored might be interesting for you

Trust me the book is better than the touristc city guide for discovering hidden places and also I'am a local;)
