Some more Venice, Italy Carnevale pictures

3

Taking a brief break from enjoying Venice to rest, relax, and upload some pictures. This morning we went to Murano island, home of the famous Murano glassblowing factories, and we got a tour. Here’s a picture of one of the master glassblowers making a vase:

Carnevale is in full swing, with costumes, children, and confetti everywhere:

There’s even Samurai out there!

More soon, or you can see the entire Carnevale set on flickr

This was my 3rd carnevale in Venice, others being 2005,2006. I think this year was a total disappointment. The theme was lost and the format taking it all away from St Marks Sq as the focal point made Carnevale nothing special this year. Not having the runway contest, the parades of costumes, the nightly music in the Square-the smaller stages with entertainment throughout the day-took away from what Carnevale felt like in past years. I think this year format was a total bomb and I do hope that the creators return to keeping the Square as it has been in past years.

Great photos. How long has the carnevale been running? Am I right in thinking it’s one of the longer running ones in the world?

That confetti photo is great… is that a Pokemon suit?
